About ScienceMatters

Who we are

The ScienceMatters campaign (previously known as REACHforLIFE) was launched in September 2008 with the aim of calling for EU policy-making to be based on sound scientific evidence. Its members believe that the growing trend of ignoring or mis-communicating on science does little to promote the interests of the consumer, the environment, and science itself.

The members of the campaign are currently Albemarle, Chemtura, Foundation Nanonet, and ICL-IP.

ScienceMatters aims to be the platform for proper discussion and debate on the role of science in policy-making in Europe. Our campaign is pan-European, embracing both the Brussels regulatory landscape and different EU Member States.

The campaign’s efforts are focused on the three pillars listed below:

The Three Pillars of Our Campaign:

  • Science-Based Policy-Making
    Promoting the importance of trusting science and viewing it as a key concern in policy making;
  • Better Regulation
    Tackling the issue of governance at EU level and promoting better regulation, in particular highlighting contradictions between current and future legislation;
  • Consumer Protection
    Emphasising the importance of a balanced approach between consumer safety, human health, and environmental protection.

The Secretariat and Press Office of the ScienceMatters campaign is run by Grayling Brussels.
